Pouring Liquid Nitrogen into a Pool is a Bad Idea

Liquid Nitrogen has recently become popular, but that doesn’t mean it’s not without its risks. Last year in Mexico, Jägermeister threw a party during which event staff proceeded to pour 10-liter dewars of liquid nitrogen. As cool as the effect was, people started to faint.

News outlets reported that the liquid nitrogen had reacted with a chemical in the pool and created a toxic cloud. It took a blog, Chembark.com, by St. Louis University chemist Paul Bracher, to set the record straight.

According to his blog, “Molecular nitrogen is relatively inert and should not react with anything present in the pool, like “chlorine” (mostly, NaOCl) or water. The danger of adding liquid nitrogen to the pool stems simply from the nitrogen’s boiling and pushing away all of the oxygen around, leaving none for the swimmers to breathe.”

Now do you see why pouring liquid nitrogen into a pool is a no no???

Beware of Scammers

In this day and age, it’s fairly easy for scammers to try and pull fast one to get goods for free. There’s card readers, key tracers, hacking, all sorts of stuff.

There’s even cards with a different card’s information. Those cards may not always swipe, and several stores have policies stating that if a card doesn’t swipe it will not be accepted as payment.

But what if the scammer is placing the order online?

A red flag to always watch out for, is the billing and shipping address being completely different. If you notice that is the case, give the paying customer a call and make sure it truly was them that placed the order.

Another fairly common way scammers try to get free goods is by emailing you and saying they would like to purchase a large order to be shipped overseas. In cases like this, Google can be your best friend.

If a scammer is trying to get you, they’ve probably tried to do so before. A recent Google search found this blog on Glassmagazine.com where lots of people have reported the same scam.

Be sure to be on the lookout so as not to fall victim to any scammers, there will always be some out there. Be sure to check us out at PoguePoolSpa.com!

Polaris 360 Pressure Side Pool Cleaner

The Polaris 360 Pressure-Side Pool Cleaner works in all in-ground pools. It operates without a booster pump to maximize energy efficiency. It’s the way to go if you want a greener pool.

It easily connects to a pressure line, and sweeps, scrubs, and vacuums the pool. Because debris is captured before it reaches the pump and filter, the filter’s life is extended.

The cleaner features all-wheel drive and is powered by triple jets. It also has a sweep hose that helps it clean tight corners.

There’s an in-line back-up valve that automatically frees the Polaris 360 if it gets cornered, allowing for uninterrupted cleaning.

Swimming Makes you Smarter

An international study administered by researchers at Australia’s Griffith University found that swimming does in fact make kids smarter. The researchers surveyed nearly 7,000 parents with children learning to swim under 5.

They were asked when their kids reached major physical, cognitive, and emotional milestones. The information the parents gave was compared against common development indicators of non-swimming children.

Since parents tend to exaggerate their kid’s achievements, nearly 200 children were put through a series of tests to make sure. The study found that swimmers go through milestones faster and are more cognitively advanced than non-swimmers.

A test group with an average age of 3, was ahead by at least 15 months in understanding directions.

A group of kids around age 4 were 7 months ahead in grasping. And about 3 and a half months ahead in locomotion.

Kids just over 4 were 10 months ahead in language, 11 months in oral expression, and 6.5 months in math.

If you had any questions about whether or not to teach your young children to swim, here’s your answer. Swimming can help make your kids smarter. It’s also great physical exercise!
