Taking Care of Your Swimsuit After you Swim

What do you do with your swim suit after you go for a swim? Wring it out? Let it try out in the sun? Turns out none of those are a good way to care for your swimsuit.

Did you know they shouldn’t even go in the washing machine? Much less the dryer??

The first thing you should do is to rinse your bathing suit in cold water once you’re done using it especially if you’re not washing it right away.

When it is time to wash it, it is recommended to hand wash, in cold water. And to use a mild hand soap, specialized swimsuit detergent, or a mild detergent, but never a regular detergent. They’re too harsh.

Once you’re done washing your swimsuit, DO NOT WRING IT OUT! It can damage the fibers in your swimsuit. It’s also not recommended to hang it since that can stretch it out. Instead, place it flat over a towel and let it dry. Or you can roll up the towel and squeeze gently then lay the swimsuit out to dry.

It’s also recommended to not wear it for at least 24 hours so the swimsuit can go back to its original shape.

We all know swimming in a dirty river is a bad idea and can cause health problems. But what about swimming in a pool ON the polluted river???

The designers and team behind +Pool saw that no one swam in New York waters, so they decided to do something about it. They came up with +Pool. A pool designed to filter the river it floats in through its walls.

How cool is that?!

According to the website, “+ POOL is designed to filter the very river that it floats in through the walls of the pool, making it possible for New Yorkers to swim in clean river water for the first time in 100 years. The layered filtration system incrementally removes bacteria and contaminants to ensure nothing but clean, swimmable water that meets both city and state standards. No chemicals, no additives, just natural river water. ”

The team is still working out the kinks, but they have a mini version out on the river right now! It’s going to be on the water for 6 months so the team can observe the pool working in real conditions.

Another cool thing about this pool, is that you can have your name on it! The team raised money, by allowing people to personalize tiles. You can do so here.

I can’t cover the complete awesomess of the +Pool because I could literally go on for pages and pages, so just check out their website for more information.
