Swimming Lessons at the YMCA

Learning how to swim is an extremely important part of a child’s life. It helps to save lives and it also helps to build confidence in a person by helping to develop the person as a whole—spirit, mind, and body. It also helps to keep a child healthy, which is a great benefit.

The YMCA of Dallas offers classes that are divided into ability groups and trained instructors to emphasize personal safety, swimming skills, endurance, and social skills—while guiding students with praise and encouragement. They have kids group swimming lessons available for kids as young as 6 months old and up. It teaches safety around the water, drowning prevention strategies, and enhances the progressions of swimming ability. Their adult swim lessons are for kids age 14 and up, which teaches the basic fundamentals of floatation and introduces swimming. The classes help the child to overcome the uneasiness that can be associated with adults learning how to swim. It also emphasizes the front crawl and elementary backstroke.

For those that do not want open lessons, the Y offers Private and Semi-Private swim lessons for ages 3 and up. The private swim lessons are 30 minutes long and taught one-on-one with the instructor. The semi-private lessons are for groups of 3 or less with one instructor.
