Sanitation is Key

There’s nothing better than soaking in a warm tub after a hard workout. Stress melts away as the steam from the hot tub soaks into your skin. The last thing on your mind should be wondering whether or not your local health club has been following the proper precautions for your health.

Unfortunately, there has been evidence shown to prove that an LA Fitness club in Naperville is the cause of two cases of Legionnaires’ disease. Their symptoms started with what appeared to be a respiratory disease, and was then diagnosed as more than that. After narrowing it down to the hot tub being the cause, health officials closed down the hot tub. It is going to continue to be closed until cleaning and inspection is passed and up to date. Legionnaires’ disease is a lung inflammation usually caused by infection. Symptoms include high fever, chills, cough, and sometimes muscle aches and headaches. The disease is caught by breathing in the mist from water that contains bacteria.

While this is not the first case of someone getting ill from a pool or hot tub, it is a good reminder to make sure that we keep our water areas fun, safe, and most importantly—bacteria free.
