Pool Safety Tips for Children Pt IV

Many times, we think that our children are safest when they are at home. True as this may seem, your home is just as dangerous as the public and still has guidelines that need to be followed to ensure your child’s safety.

One of the things you can do if you have a pool at home is install a 4-foot fence around the perimeter of your pool and spa and any portable pools. When installing fences, use self-closing and self-latching gates, and ask your neighbors to do the same if they have a pool or spa. To ensure that you always know when someone goes outside, install and use a door or pool alarm.

It is also important to keep the area tidy and in working order. Make sure your pool and spa covers are up to date and working correctly. Make sure you also have compliant drain covers for your pool or spa. Last, but not least, make sure you have life saving equipment around your pool and spa. This can be life rings, floats, or a reaching pole. Keep them available and easily accessible in case of emergency.
