Police Officer Saves Child from Drowning

Since May is National Water Safety Month, my blogs have been focused on water safety. Sadly, most of the water safety news articles I come across involve someone losing their life to the water. That’s why I literally smiled when I came across an article about a police officer saving a 4-year-old’s life after she nearly drowned.

On April 28, Sara Villasenor was watching her two children aged 4 and 6 swim in the family pool. She went inside to use the bathroom while her dad watched them when she heard Rikki, her 6-year-old screaming.

Nina had slipped off her floaties and gone underwater.

Rikki was able to push Nina close enough for heir grandpa to pick her up and start performing CPR. That’s when Sara called 9-1-1.

Officer Olin was first on the scene and immediately started performing CPR when he saw Nina was turning gray.

Eventually, Nina vomited the water and was taken to the hospital where she stayed overnight. Officer Olin even dropped by the hospital to check on Nina.

I’m glad Officer Olin was able to save young Nina’s life. Hopefully the incident helps raise water safety awareness in the area.
