National Drowning Prevention Alliance

According to their website, the National Drowning Prevention Alliance (NDPA) was founded “to prevent drowning and¬†aquatic injuries, by educating, leading, engaging, and supporting the public, our members, chapters, and partners.”

The NDPA believes that drowning is preventable and seeks to educate the public and engage communities in helping to prevent drownings.

In 2002, the first National Drowning Prevention Symposium was organized. Participants discussed challenges and opportunities regarding the advancement of drowning prevention.

2003 was the year when the NDPA formed the volunteer Founding Board of Directors. They established committees to address various focus areas within drowning prevention.

The NDPA established their website in 2004.

Other notable achievements include compiling a report on Measuring the Decrease in Child Drowning and acting as a consult for the author of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool Safety Act.
