ISLA, International Surf Lifesaving Association

According to their website, islasurf.org, “ISLA exists to advance professional lifesaving development to areas in need around the globe.”

ISLA works to enhance aquatic safety in people’s own coastal community, working with them to help prevent drowning among other things. Their programs include lifeguard training and exchanging, equipment donations, and utilizing the latest technology to sustain an information network between all lifeguards.

ISLA members consider themselves water people, lifeguards, globetrotters, and activists. They are driven by a sense of social justice. ISLA uses tried and true techniques to prevent drownings, along with new ground-breaking technologies.

Their volunteers started with four lifeguards fron Huntington Beach, California, and has grown to include people from all over the world.
