Get Your Tan On

For those that are more worried about a tan than swimming, a perfect addition to your pool is a tanning shelf. A tanning shelf is basically a shallow area in your pool that allows you to tan, relax, and soak up the sun without having to lay on hot concrete or a hot lawn chair.

Tanning shelves are usually around 5-8 inches deep in your pool and allow you to stay cool while laying out. You are able to lie in the water without being completely submerged. They can even add a resort like feel to your pool because you are able to personalize it. You can add mosaic tiles to help show where the shelf starts and ends, or even add an umbrella stand for when you want to sit in the water but avoid the sun. Other options for your tanning shelf are:

  • Chairs: low height chairs allow you to get your feet wet without submersing your entire body.
  • Misting systems: these systems spray a light mist of water over you to cool you down. You can install them into your umbrella so that they spray you when you sit under it, or on your pool deck to cool off everyone around your pool and prevent the concrete/deck from getting so extremely hot.
  • Bubble Jets: these jets require little water to operate and emit an incredibly relaxing sound. They are every economical and are able to be ran continuously without breaking the bank.
