Exercise for Fun

Studies have proven that water aerobics are great for your body. They have less impact on your joints and even help strengthen your heart. Rather than looking at exercising as a chore, you can exercise while you’re out at the pool having fun.

A great exercise in the water is the K Tread. You simply go into the deep end and tread water while making small circles with cupped hands. You then lift your right leg straight in front of you at hip level while reaching your toes of your left leg toward the bottom of the pool. Hold this for five seconds while continuing to tread water with your cupped hands. Switch legs and repeat this process for 30 seconds.

Another exercise is the Otter Roll. You begin by hugging a beach ball to your chest and floating on your back. Extend your legs and put your feet together. Roll toward the left and over the top of the ball, returning to start position. Continue this for 30 seconds, alternating the direction of the roll each time.

The Cannonball is also great. This is performed by grabbing a noddle and wrapping it around your upper back under your arms. Float in deep water. Extend your legs toward the bottom of the pool with your feet together and toes pointed. Next, engage your abs and raise your knees toward your chest. Hold this position for 2 seconds, and then straighten your legs. Do 20 reps.
