Their purpose is

  1. to work to join all existing efforts and implement education and legislation to prevent drowning
  2. provide information to everybody regarding ways to prevent drownings

Oh oh, Someone Had an Accident in the Pool

People have accidents, especially kids who haven’t learned to control their bowel movements. Which means you need to be aware of what to do when someone has an accident in your pool. And by accident, I mean number two. I know it’s gross, but it’s an issue that needs to be addressed.

The CDC has released a document with full instructions on what to do when there is a formed stool in the pool. You can view it here.

In the meantime, here’s a list of the basic steps:

  1. Close the pool.
  2. Remove as much as possible.
  3. Raise the free chlorine to 2 ppm and lower the pH to 7.5 or less and a temperature of 77°
  4. Maintain the free chlorine level at 2 ppm and below 7.5 pH for at least 25 minutes. It depends on the kind of fecal accident that took place.

Hopefully, you never have to deal with someone having an accident in your pool. But just in case you do, now you know what to do.

Check out more blogs at PoguePoolSpa.com, including one on what to do in case of a diarrhea incident in your pool.

  • Shell: Shells are normally made by the manufacturer and can last 30-40 years if cared for properly. It is essential to choose your shell carefully, repairs can be extremely expensive. They are normally made from vinyl, acrylic backed by fiberglass, or acrylic backed by ABS plastic.
